Chef Kris Yenbamroong is the creative force behind the popular NIGHT+MARKET restaurants in Los Angeles, with 3 locations spanning Venice Beach, the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood and Silverlake. The newest outpost opened at Virgin Hotels and Resorts Las Vegas in 2021.
The restaurants are built around the idea of friends coming together over boldly-seasoned food meant to inspire the drinking of natural wine and cocktails. In fact, Chef Kris lays this manifesto out as the tagline to the NIGHT+MARKET cookbook, “Food to facilitate drinking and fun having amongst friends.”
Yenbamroong grew up working in his family’s restaurant, Talesai, the first mainstream Thai restaurant in LA and the first to cater to a celebrity clientele. He believes this experience, along with a background in the arts, helped him to create his own brand of Thai cooking, which he likes to call “LA Thai.” While there is a reverence for tradition, the food served at NIGHT+MARKET is not bound by those orthodoxies. Rather, it speaks to the whims and desires of the clientele at each locale.
Yenbamroong was named Food & Wine Best New Chef 2016, has numerous appearances on “Best Restaurant” lists and is a fixture in the natural wine scene and a James Beard Award finalist for Best Wine Program.
His restaurants are vibey and buzzing with energy. Bangkok frenzy meets California chill, with bottles you would find in the chicest Parisian wine bars.
