Overview
Julio Cabrera is a Miami-based bartender known for his classic Cuban bartending style.
Cabrera began tending bar during Cuba’s 1980 tourism boom after becoming a certified cantinero—a professional bartender who displays excellence in bartending craft and provides top-notch hospitality and service. He continued to hone his skills over the next 20 years, tending bar in his native Cuba, Mexico, and Italy.
In 2006, Cabrera moved to Miami to open the bar at Chef Michelle Bernstein’s renowned restaurant, Michy’s. In 2008, he left Michy’s to launch another Bernstein project, Sra. Martinez. While at Sra. Martinez, Cabrera’s focus on innovative mixology and classic cocktails ushered in a new era of cocktail culture in trendy South Beach—and earned Sra. Martinez the coveted titled of “Best Bar in America.”
In 2013, Cabrera opened The Regent Cocktail Club, a 1940s cocktail bar with a menu featuring both traditional classic cocktails and Cabrera’s one-of-a-kind creations. The same year, Cabrera was named “Most Imaginative Bartender” by Bombay Sapphire—an accolade that landed him on the cover of GQ Magazine.
With Cabrera at the helm, The Regent Cocktail Club has been recognized as one of the World’s Best Bars, and has been named a “Best Bar in Miami” by Time Out Magazine.
In addition to leading The Regent Cocktail Club’s award-winner bar program, Julio Cabrera has partnered with Bacardi to teach a series of Cantineros Master Classes—an advanced bartending seminar geared to sharing the way of the cantinero with America’s next generation of bartenders and mixologists.
